Macquarie Island 2003

Welcome to Henry's Raincoat!

Why Henry's Raincoat? Macquarie Island is renown for its wet weather, they say that it rains on Macca (Macquarie Island) 350 days of the year, this is probably an exaggeration, however it is a very wet and cold climate, and even though the actual annual rainfall is not that significant, it is constantly wet, drizzly, sleety, windy, and cold. Anyway, when my good mate from Casey 2001, Critter heard that I was going to Macca, he immediately said "you gotta call your web site Henry's Raincoat after calling the Casey web site Henry's Igloo" - so here it is.

Macca is an incredibly amazing place, from the geological formation of the island, to the history of it's Sealing days and it's Antarctic exploration history. The Island also serves as a haven for Antarctic / Sub-Antarctic wildlife, and has been listed as a World Heritage area for it's uniqueness and importance.

On the following pages I hope to explore the History of the Island, both natural and Human, and capture it's unique rugged beauty as well as share the experiences and perspectives of myself and fellow expeditioners on this 56th Australian National Antarctic Research Expedition.
