Getting results - progress. [pg1,
pg2, pg3,
pg4,
pg5]
It has now been
almost a year since Liz got back from attending the SON-RISE
program in America. Since then we have built a special therapy
room where Isabella does much of her learning. We have been
applying the principles of the SON-RISE
program along with Applied
Behaviour Analysis (ABA) and Discrete
Trial Training (DTT). Specially trained therapists have
been working with Isa intensively and her progress is astounding.
She still attends a special private school for children with
dissabilities once a week, and attends all her other activities.
Isa absolutely loves to be in her therapy room learning, each
session runs for 2 hours, and she has up to three sessions
a day. In the short time the program has been running she
has learnt to count, spell her name, read books, ask for things,
say yes and no, imaginative play, identify genders, moods,
countless items, and much more. In a nutshell she
is learning to communicate and be aware of her surroundings,
she has a real desire for learning.
In order to keep up with all the heavy demand for learning
materials and aids, Liz has been absolutely flat out organising
and producing items such as - picture cards, shapes, puzzles,
colour cards, sizes cards, picture books, the list goes on,
while I have produced some computer based learning aids such
as audio visual cue cards which have helped her with spelling,
item recognition and toileting - it is all a very taxing and
time consuming task but the results are well worth it.
Right now as I am writing this Liz and Amber
are very busy organising workshops
and selection trials for new therapists to be trained and
work with Isa
~ more to come
