Leaps and bounds are small words to represent how Isa has been progressing.
Recently we had been preparing Isa for a trip to Queensland to the Gold Coast and the theme parks – her first holiday away from home and her first ever plane trip. The plane trip was approx 3 hours; we also took our niece as a companion and role model for Isa and for her to enjoy the holiday as well.
Liz prepared Isa for months prior to the trip, counting down the days and preparing social stories with pictures and words so she could read and see what we would be doing.
Liz took her to the airport so she could see planes taking off, and she explained how we had to go there and wait for the plane, she showed her pictures and brochures of all the theme parks, and pictures of where we would be staying. Liz covered everything in preparation for the trip.
All the preparation paid off as we had a happy and uneventful trip. The flight was great, Liz kept the girls busy with coloring in books and puzzles. Isa was in awe to see the plane take off and get up in the air, it was a beautiful sight to see her with a smile from ear to ear and to see how well she coped. (Imagination and preparation goes a long way).
We spent seven days on the Gold Coast visiting all the theme parks and we all had a ball, the only drama we experienced was when we went into the Shrek 3d cinema show, poor Isa had the 3d glasses on not knowing what to expect but when the show started and things appeared to come out the screen toward her as well as the sensory effects she just spun out (others beware if you go to the theme parks or alike). Apart from that she had a grand time and went on heaps of rides, particularly at Wet n Wild as she loves water slides.
She also coped extremely well with being away from home and her routines, sleeping in a strange place and a strange bed wasn’t an issue, we made sure we got food she was familiar with and enjoyed, again the preparation really paid off.
